The Fullerton Hotel faces Marina Bay from the downtown shore, and the Merlion spouts water from its pier directly in front.
The Merlion moved to its pier here in 2002 from the mouth of the Singapore River, after the Esplanade Bridge blocked its view, so The Fullerton Hotel now forms the backdrop to Singapore’s best-known statue. The name lives on nearby too: the Tan Kim Seng Fountain of 1882 stood in Fullerton Square until it was moved in 1925; today it is a National Monument.
From the hotel’s waterfront, the 220-metre Jubilee Bridge, opened in 2015, crosses to the Esplanade, and the 3.5 km promenade loops on past the Helix Bridge to Marina Bay Sands. Raffles Place MRT is the nearest station on this side of the bay. Walk early or after 5 pm, when the midday heat has eased.
