Singapore's oldest museum marked its 139th anniversary by reopening its Singapore History Gallery, revamped in full for the first time, on 10 October 2026.

The National Museum of Singapore is the nation's oldest museum and the place to see the full national story. Its Singapore History Gallery reopened on 10 October 2026 after its first full revamp, and its seven zones cover more than 700 years, from maritime trade to the global city. Look for the Singapore Stone and the piano on which Zubir Said wrote the national anthem.

The museum stands on Stamford Road, served by Bras Basah and Dhoby Ghaut MRT stations. The Level 2 Life in Singapore galleries reopen fully in early 2027. Citizens and permanent residents enter free; tourists need a ticket, so check the museum's website for current prices. Everything is under cover, which makes the museum one of the best rainy-day choices in the city.
