Shaped like a lotus in bloom, Moshe Safdie’s white museum rises from the edge of Marina Bay at the end of the Helix Bridge.
Opened in 2011 at Marina Bay Sands, the ArtScience Museum gives each of its frond-like petals a gallery, and rainwater from the roof is channelled down through the atrium. Exhibitions change through the year, but the long-running teamLab Future World, an immersive digital-art space, suits all ages; its Sketch Aquarium lets children design sea creatures that then swim on screen.
The museum sits at the ArtScience end of the 280-metre Helix Bridge, whose LED-lit double spiral of steel carries the waterfront promenade across the bay. Being under cover, it makes a good rainy-day choice, and it pairs easily with The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands and the free Spectra show on the Event Plaza in the evening.
