Its steel strands twisted like DNA and lit by LEDs after dark, the Helix Bridge carries the Marina Bay promenade to the ArtScience end of Marina Bay Sands.

The Helix Bridge is a 280-metre footbridge, opened in April 2010, and one link in the promenade that runs around Marina Bay from Merlion Park past the Esplanade to Marina Bay Sands. Arup, Cox Group and Singapore's Architects 61 designed its double spiral of steel, which recalls the structure of DNA. After dark, LEDs light up its strands. Like the rest of the bay, it is best seen on foot.

Walk it at dusk, when the bridge glows and the towers of Raffles Place light up across the water. On the far side, Spectra, a free 15-minute show of fountains, light and mist, plays from the Event Plaza at Marina Bay Sands at 8pm and 9pm from Sunday to Thursday, and at 8pm, 9pm and 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
