Thirty-six metres above Henderson Road, the deck of Henderson Waves rolls between Mount Faber and Telok Blangah Hill like a wave about to break.
Henderson Waves is the highest pedestrian bridge in Singapore, 274 metres long and 8 metres wide, standing 36 metres above Henderson Road. Seven curved ribs rise above and below the deck in a rolling wave, forming shaded alcoves where walkers pause to look over the treetops towards the harbour. With Alexandra Arch, it was completed in 2008 and officially opened by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on 10 May that year.
The bridge is the centrepiece of the Southern Ridges, a 10 km chain of hills from Mount Faber through Telok Blangah Hill and HortPark to Kent Ridge Park. The 1.3 km Forest Walk links it to Alexandra Arch. The full walk is long, hilly and partly exposed, so carry water, wear a hat and shelter quickly if lightning threatens.
