Henderson Waves, Singapore’s highest pedestrian bridge, rolls 36 metres above Henderson Road, and the walk to reach it runs along a chain of forested hills.
The Southern Ridges trail follows a 10 km chain of hills from Mount Faber through Telok Blangah Hill and HortPark to Kent Ridge Park. Two bridges, officially opened on 10 May 2008, stitch the hills together over busy roads. Henderson Waves is 274 metres long, its seven curved ribs rising above and below the deck to form shaded alcoves where walkers pause to look over the treetops towards the harbour.
Alexandra Arch, an 80-metre bridge shaped like an open fig leaf, leads to the 1.3 km Forest Walk; at Kent Ridge Park a 280-metre canopy boardwalk reaches Reflections at Bukit Chandu, a Second World War museum. The full walk is long, hilly and partly exposed: start early or late, carry water and wear a hat.
