On Siloso Beach, Sentosa's liveliest, the horizon is never empty: every sunset is framed by the tankers anchored in the Singapore Strait.
Sentosa's beaches face the Singapore Strait, so the view is of ships at anchor rather than open sea. The island's name means tranquillity in Malay, but Siloso, in the west, is the liveliest of the three, with beach bars and watersports; Ola Beach Club rents paddleboards and water jetpacks. Palawan Beach suits families better, and Tanjong Beach, at the eastern end, is the quietest.
Fort Siloso is at Siloso Point, also in the west, so the two make a natural pair: explore the tunnels and gun emplacements in the afternoon, then come down for sunset. After dark, Wings of Time plays 20 minutes of fountains, lasers and fireworks on the beach, nightly at 7.40pm and 8.40pm. Public drinking is banned everywhere from 10.30pm to 7am, beaches included.
