At the island's eastern tip, Changi Village feels a world away from the city: low buildings, a food centre, a boardwalk and bumboats waiting for Pulau Ubin.
Changi Village is a cluster of low buildings, a bus terminal, a food centre and the Changi Point Ferry Terminal at 51 Lorong Bekukong. At the food centre, nasi lemak, coconut rice with sambal and fried fish or chicken, is the classic order. Buses 2, 29, 59 and 109 run to Changi Village Bus Terminal, and Changi Airport is next door, so the village makes an easy add-on if you are flying in or out.
From the ferry terminal, the Changi Point Coastal Walk hugs the shore for about 2.2 km, past bumboats heading for the offshore islands, along the beach and around the cliffs; allow about 45 minutes. Bumboats cross to Pulau Ubin in about ten minutes. There is no timetable: a boat usually leaves once 12 passengers have gathered, from around 6am to 7pm.
NParks lists the bumboat fare at S$4 per person each way, plus S$2 with a bicycle, but boatmen have asked for more, so agree the fare before you board.
